Riding "Beyond Hope" was actually... uh... hopefull
Last weekends Beyond Hope ride with the BC Randonneurs club was by my standards a great success. Being only my second 400km ride and my first with a night time start I wasn’t sure how I’d be feeling at the end. Turns out 19 1/2 hours after starting I was feeling pretty great! This was a different route from last years 400 but I took almost 4 hours off last years time. A lot of that is due to the pace lines that were formed on the ride into Hope, and again from Hope to Fort Langley.
There was very little rain to deal with but plenty of cold temperatures. Spending extra time at control stations really wasn’t an option as my teeth started chattering after a few minutes of sitting still. It never really warmed up that much but I was able to loose the long sleeve jersey and leg warmers for the last hour of the ride. It was still a bit cool but it felt nice to change things up a bit.
I tried out a few new products on this ride and will try to do up some reviews in the next few days.
